‘The Hobbit’ is out and Amazon Drops The Lord of the Rings Extended Blu-ray Under $40 to celebrate.

Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey debuts this weekend and this has prompted online retailer Amazon.com to take advantage of the hype and offer a deal on Jackson’s first foray into Tolkien’s world.

As of today, Amazon is selling The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Edition on Blu-ray for only $39.99, matching their lowest price offered back during the Black Friday time frame. If you do your maths correctly, that’s $13 per film and you get free shipping as a bonus.

This is not a Deal of the Day so I don’t know how much time you have to enjoy this price. Since the price normally runs up around $60 for the set, I’d grab it now if The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has you thinking of filling in that hole in your Blu-ray collection.
